As 2024 looms, it's time to get the Wids Centenary into focus. After a slight delay, the Heritage Trail has now been planned. While the relevant location details need fleshing out, there's no reason to hold back on the route itself. Here's a shaky video to prove there's nothing daunting about the walk. You may notice that there are quite a few pubs along the way. You can pretty well start and finish anywhere you like but here are anti-clockwise directions from the Wids: Turn left out of club down Heath Road. Left at T-junction on to Liverpool Road. Right at Cookhouse on to Lowerhouse Lane. Left before McDonalds on Moor Lane. Cross Kingsway and turn left at library. Straight past Victoria Square on to Widnes Road. Cross Asda car park and carry on past Simms Cross pub on right to pedestrianised street which becomes Albert Rd. Turn left up Deacon Road at traffic lights by Bradley pub. Turn right at next lights on to Appleton Village following road bend around St Bede’s church to T-junction. Turn right on to Birchfield Rd. Opposite cemetery gates, turn right down Derby Road. After Methodist church, turn left up Beaconsfield Road. At T-junction, turn right on to Pit Lane then left up Coroners Lane opposite St Luke’s church. At T-junction, turn right on to Birchfield Rd then left down Upton Lane. Beyond Tavern pub and houses, turn left up Upton Bridle Path and right down Rock Lane footpath. At the end of the path, turn left on Queensbury Way and pass three roundabouts before reaching island by Four Topped Oak. Turn left up Prescot Rd and over bridge before turning left at Heath Road. Widnes RUFC is on the left. Total distance is 6 miles.
