Our U13s field two teams of 13 to face hoppers

A great turn out from Wids meant they put out 2 teams of 13 to face a team from PGH. Overall the Wids put up a strong performance and showed they can compete and win against some good opposition.

1st quarter Wids 15 - PGH 0
From the kick off the Wids pushed PGH back into their half. It wasn’t long before Zak Manion opened the score line after a quick ball was taken out of the scrum by Dylan and passed along the line by Alex. Ethan Campbell saw quite a bit of action on the wing with George also putting in great tackle to stop a certain try. PGH managed to keep some pressure on the Wids but the boys turned it around after a good drive by Josh and then a half pitch run by Zak M to score again. The quarter finished with another long run from Bobby to score and finish a solid quarter from the Wids.
2nd quarter Wids 5 - PGH 0
This quarter started with some good passing between Lewis, Dan and Alfie L. PGH stepped up the pressure and kept the Wids in their own half for most of the game. There were some good breaks from Charlie although he often found himself running out of support. Dan managed to break through the PGH line after a great dummy and scored. The rest of the quarter was a bit scrappy in the middle of the field although it was good to see Max B making his presence felt in the rucks.
3rd quarter Wids 15 - PGH 10
In the 3rd quarter the Wids immediately put PGH under pressure and after a quick ball from Bobby, Zak Ellis broke through to score. Josh made a great sequence of tackles to defend against PGH attacks although eventually they broke through to score. Wids responded with another try scored by Ben H after he out-kicked PGH! This was quickly followed up with another by Ben after a strong ruck from Josh. Josh then had another good run after Will and Ethan P did some disciplined rucking, although the forwards then seemed to tire and PGH managed to gain possession and score before the end.
4th quarter Wids 15 - PGH 0
Lewis Y took control of the passing at the start and linked up well with Lewis O who had an impressive debut. Reece R and Joe put in some good tackles to stop PGH from advancing. Dan had another good quarter and went on a long run to score. This was followed by more pressure from the Wids and a brilliant presentation from Alfie H in the ruck to Alfie L to score. It was good to see Ben Allen return to the pitch and clear out a few rucks. The game finished with Cam breaking through the PGH line to score.

A really dominant performance from both Wids teams against good opposition. At times, some of the Wids runners seemed to go down dead ends with no support. However, the boys had some good basics on show today with solid rucking and defence throughout the game and some quick passes that opened up the PGH line to score.

Next week we hit the road for the first time in the season, only a short trip up the M57 to Waterloo, see you all there
