The hosts elected to play into the wind for the 1st half which paid dividends in the 2nd half, allowing them to take control. The Wids forwards were strong in the scrums and were winning lineout ball, thanks to good jumping by young Olly Hopkins and support from the two props. Olly was also great in the loose too, tackling, jackling and running strong lines. Not so young Graham Riley kept feeding the number 10 great balls and he made wise decisions to get the team in the right areas. The brilliant pair of centres in midfield continually sniffed out the opposition’s attack and were really strong running in attack with ball in hand. Joe Finch chipped in with his usual try-saving tackles to keep the hosts in the game. Wids bombed a few chances which on another day would more easily have become points.

Great spirit was shown due to the fact the team only came together at kick-off. Massive thanks to Andy Barber, Phil Anders and Jon-Paul Favour who made the effort to come and play at the last minute. Olly Hopkins deservedly got MoM as he played a mature game, never took a backward step. At half time the hosts were 0-12 down and came back to level the game – a near miss on the last home conversion denied the hosts s much needed win.
