A heavy defeat to start the season, not what we wanted but lessons to be learnt and at the end of the day, it’s only game 1 with loads of rugby left to play.

Manchester showed intent and skill from the off, opening their ledger early on but the Wids answered back through a trademark Alex Jones run with Alex Glover converting 7 - 7. What happened next was Manchester ran in 4 unanswered scores to finish the half 32 - 7 with the Widnes lads unable to respond

Second half was much closer and credit to the lads there was a great 20min period where defence was superb but after a YC we couldn’t get enough forward momentum to score. Manchester grabbed another two tries, one totally against the run of play but fair play to Manchester, their centre read it and intercepted to go 50-60m. Another YC put yet more pressure on the Wids hit defence held, we just didn’t have enough in attack to get points on the board.

Final score 46 - 7

As said, not how we wanted to start the season however, we will go away and work on what we need to.

A tough game beckons this week with Kendal at home.

See you there
