It was a warm day at Heath road as local rivals LSH arrived for a preseason game against the assembled squad from 2/3s

The game started as most wids games do, a little slow and a few penalties however a spirited defence kept LSH from exploiting the self inflicted pain by the Wids and it felt like it was only a matter of time till the home side scored.

No10 Alex Glover opened up the wids account after some great work by the forward near the line, then converted his own try 7-0

The forwards grafted hard again from a lineout, committing LSH to try and defend a powerful maul before Captain for the day Adam Menia showed power to crash over. Not converted 12-0

LSH pressure the wids but couldn’t make field position, a superb line break by Jack Krause broke open the LSH defence before a nice kick through for Charlie Cross to gather and score in the corner. A difficult conversion just missed but 17-0 and the Wods building a good lead.

Vinny Kanda showed power to steel the ball before the backs linked up to go wide with pace, Charlie Cross benefiting from a fast transition to score in the opposite corner. Alex Glover converting 24-0

LSH was really struggling in the middle to contain VK, who was rewarded for his graft with a good score under the sticks. The boot of Alex G taking the score to 31-0 and half time approaching.

Half time was a welcome break from the heat of the day, a simple message of continuing our good things with a reduction in penalties will put the game to bed.
A few changes during the half to give all players a good run out but continuation of the first half work rate and pressure was asked for by the coaching staff.

The forwards again set the standards for the backs to exploit space outside with the hard running Vinny Rowlands taking LSH on and scoring for the wids in the corner. Not converted but now 36-0 and the game getting out of reach of the visitors however they played on and a few lapses of concentration allowed LSH to get some points on the board 36-7
Wids hit back pretty straight away with Adam Menia getting his second, showing power and rugby IQ, Alex G converting 43-7

LSH was not going to go down without a fight and grabbed another 43-12 but as earlier, the Wids struck back, forwards committed the LSH defence before the backs combined to release the power of Zak Mannion, Alex Glover converted 50-12 but still time to go.

LSH showed grit and determination to bag a brace before the final whistle to put the game at 50-22

Thanks just go to LSH for a great game and whilst the score looks one sided, the game was anything but that, Wids had to work hard, a few too many penalties cost us field position but there was a lot of good rugby on show, a commitment to the Widnes ethos and a lot of hard work on a very hot and sunny day.

Superb effort all round and we look forward to Garstang away next week before the season begins after that
