Widnes v Didsbury Toc H Preview

Widnes v Didsbury Toc H Preview

Stephen Clark29 Oct - 15:35

The Senior XV take a break from league action this weekend, and turn their attention to knock out footy instead.

They will take on Didsbury Toc H at Heath Road in the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup, with the winner progressing into the final, where they will face Vale of Lune later in the season.

With the Wids currently at level 6 and Didsbury at level 7, this should be an intruiging clash.

Recent history shows there has literally been nothing to choose between the pair during their time in the Lancashire Leagues. Cup matches were also equally close, with just a few points separating the teams on the scoreboard.

Widnes won the adm Premier League Title during the first two years of the competition, before Toc H finally overcame the ‘red-and-blacks’ a year later to secure the title following an unbeaten campaign.

2023/24 saw both teams return to the RFU Leagues, with the Wids earning promotion into Regional 2 North West.

Last season, Didsbury went head-to-head with West Park, and just missed out on promotion on the final day.

This year, they are currently in sixth place in the table, having won three and lost two of their five matches to date.

The Ford Lane outfit are also well known to Head coach Liam McGovern, who was in charge there for two years before moving on to Heath Road during the summer.

Supporters are reminded that the game will kick off at the earlier time of 2.15pm.

+ The Third team are also in cup action, as they travel to Hoylake looking to keep their winning run going and progressing into the next round.
