— and what a statement we made from start to finish!
Day one kicked off with a thrilling opening fixture against St Albans RFC, in what can only be described as an exhilarating contest between two evenly matched sides. The intensity, physicality, and quality on display set the tone for the entire weekend. Every player stepped up, showing composure, resilience, and real attacking intent.
Building on that momentum, the lads went on to face Chichester RUFC and Launceston RUFC to close out day one. In both fixtures, Widnes were dominant across the pitch—clinical in attack, organised in defence, and relentless in their work rate. Those performances rightfully earned the team a place in the highly competitive Martin Group for day two.
And that’s where the real statement was made.
Day two saw the standard rise even higher, but so did Widnes. Facing strong opposition in Stoneygate RUFC, Old Halsonians RUFC, and finally Shipston on Stour RFC, the boys delivered outstanding performances in every single game. Their defensive effort was immense, their attacking play was sharp and exciting, and their teamwork was second to none.
Across the six games, Widnes produced a level of consistency that truly set them apart—conceding just seven tries all weekend while scoring over thirty of their own. A statistic that highlights not only their attacking threat, but the grit, discipline, and pride shown in defence.
Each game saw Widnes grow stronger, more confident, and more dominant—ultimately blowing the opposition away and finishing top of the group in emphatic fashion.
That achievement saw Widnes RUFC crowned Martin Group Winners, before going on to receive the ultimate honour—being awarded the Champions Trophy, capping off a truly remarkable weekend of rugby.
But this tour was about more than just results.
Every single player represented the club with pride, passion, and respect. Off the pitch, the behaviour and togetherness of the group was just as impressive as the performances on it. Parents, siblings, and supporters all played their part in creating a brilliant atmosphere, making it a weekend full of memories, laughter, and enjoyment for everyone involved.
This was Widnes RUFC at its very best—united, determined, and proud.
A massive well done to every single person who travelled. You have done yourselves, your families, and this club incredibly proud.
Champions!!
