After a couple of losses recently, it was a great opportunity to make it third time lucky and re-establish themselves within the leading group.

And they did not fail their audition, as they triumphed by 21pts – 12 in a hard-fought derby contest.

They led through tries from Josh Argent and Dan Salter and two conversions from brother Josh, before being pegged back at the break to lead 14 – 12.

The Second half then became a real midfield battle with the result looking very much in doubt until late on, when Nathan Lyon sliced through on a great angle to score with the trusty boot of Salter again on target to add the extras.

With Eagle now having to score twice to win the game, the Wids defence came under some sustained pressure which they were able to absorb and see out the remainder of the contest.

The victory keeps them in touch with the leading pair of St Edwards OB and Sandbach, with a game in hand.

In the other senior fixture, the Third Team hosted Northwich in their latest Division 5 West game.

They too, went into the game following back-to-back losses, but came good in a high scoring thriller to win by 41pts – 35.

The win keeps them top of the Division 5 West table, ahead of Oxton Parkonians, New Brighton and Capenhurst.
