And they did not disappoint either, as they edged it by 29pts – 21 in what was a thrilling contest.
After absorbing a whole pile of pressure, they recovered to take the lead 12 – 7 at half time only to see Sefton come roaring back after the break with two converted tries to make it 21 – 12 in favour of the visitors.
However, the home team were not ready to throw in the towel, and in a stirring comeback, they responded by scoring a further seventeen un-answered points to claim the spoils at 29 – 21, to claim a place in the semi-final where they will travel to face Merseyside Police.
Try scorers for Widnes were Pawel Mikles, Reuben Mafi, Fili Mafi and Kyle McGreevey (2), whilst Harvey Adams added four conversions.
+ Meanwhile, the Club took the opportunity to catch up with some unfinished business as they held a ‘Celebration Day’ to mark the recent achievements of the senior teams.
The event was kindly sponsored by former Club President Neil Ankers who provided the refreshments, much to the delight of all those who were in attendance!!
Under their banner of 'One Club' the aim of the event was to bring together the players, coaches, and officials behind this incredible period of success.
Covid had been the main culprit in forcing the delay of these celebrations to mark the most successful period in the Club’s 101-year long existence.
Since that time the Club have had a full agenda, with the First Team returning to the RFU league structure, gaining promotion and reaching two National cup finals, whilst the Seconds were also promoted in the North West Leagues.
The Third Team were also being recognised after their 'rise from the Ashes' dropping out of the North West Leagues last year, only to return this season, to currently sit proudly at the top of the table and reaching the semi-final stage of the Barry Allen Plate.
For the Senior XV, there was the achievement of winning back-to-back adm Premier League Titles which also included an incredible 44 – match unbeaten run.
That was followed by winning the Papa Johns National Plate Final at Darlington, the subsequent unforgettable cup run all the way to Rugby HQ at Twickenham, and finally promotion into Regional 2 North West.
There was also a celebration of the Second Team's achievements who completed a successful league and cup ‘double’ leading to promotion at the end of the 24/25 campaign.
