The ‘on-off’ cup tie finally got the go ahead from Lancashire Rugby, with the only change in competition rules being that the winner will be required to play their next round game by 19th September in order to avoid a potential fixture backlog later in the season should there be a bad winter.

But back to this one, and what a great game looks to be in prospect!

The pair met twice in the league last year, with the away team coming out on top on both occasions.

in filthy conditions last September, the Wids edged it by 18pts – 12 at the Memorial Gardens. ‘Loo, however, earned their revenge in the return fixture at Heath Road in the final round of matches before the Christmas break.

Previous to that, ‘Loo won both R2NW games during the Wids promotion year, as well as edging out the ‘red-and-blacks’ 14 – 6 in the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup in season 2022/23.

So, with lots to play, for and an opportunity to progress further, this cup tie will function as a useful marker for both teams ahead of what is expected to be another extremely competitive season in Regional 2 North West.
