For our April outing, Past President Martin Griffiths, embracing the notion that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, led us on a visit to the paths and pubs of Warrington for the Wire2Wolves Walk. This recently launched route, incorporating Wilderspool and the Halliwell Jones Stadium, is a successor to the Wids Centenary Circuit which, in turn, was a copy of the Saints Heritage Trail that we’ve wandered along in previous years.
It’s five miles long and surprisingly interesting if you are prepared to follow the explanatory notes. That aside, reminiscences of pre-Super League days, soap suds on the river and “The Hit Man and Her” kept conversations flowing throughout the day.
Our May target is Hale Lighthouse, guided by the gentlemen of the Wids Press Corps. We’ll publish details when they let us know.
