Widnes RUFC face their biggest game of the season on Saturday, when they take on Preston Grasshoppers in the final of the Lancashire Cup.

And, what a game it promises to be.

In their respective semi-final ties, Preston saw off the challenge of Blackburn at Ramsgreave Drive, whilst the Wids came from behind to beat Rochdale 33 – 29 in a thriller.

The pair used to meet regularly on the fixture list, but compete at differing levels these days with Preston now at level 4, whilst the Wids are currently at level 7.

PGH have been in great form this season, finishing second in North Premier to earn themselves promotion back into the National League.

Widnes, too, though, have had a great season, finishing as runners-up in the ADM Premier League behind Champions Didsbury. They also reached the final of the League Cup.

Both teams are no strangers to the Lancashire Cup. Preston have lifted the trophy on three previous occasions; in 2003, 2006 and 2012, whilst the Wids got their hands on the Cup in 1976 and 1991. They were also runners-up in 1992 and 1996.

Supporters are reminded that the game – played at Wigan RUFC – will kick off at the later time of 4.00pm.
