With no first team fixture it was the seconds who took centre stage this week, opening their campaign with an impressive 58 - 5 victory at Northwich.

Widnes opening the scoring through Alex Jones. A Kyle McGreevey break down the left hand side was stopped 10 metres short of the line. Quick thinking scrum half Jones darting down the short side from the ruck to go over in the corner.

Northwich were next on the score sheet in an evenly matched first half, capitalising on a Widnes mistake and a penalty to go over from close range.

Widnes would however finish the first half in the ascendency with a further 2 try’s from Phil Barker and Tom Spencer, who both got on the end of sweeping backs moves. Giving the away side a 15 - 5 lead at half time.

The second forty was all about the men from Heath Road as they ran in 7 tries and 43 unanswered points. Man of the match Ryan Millington, Barker’s second and Kyle McGreevey all going over for break away scores. Jones and Millington’s second with substitute Ben Mercer and another from Tom Spencer, with 4 conversions from Chris Morgan rounded off the scoring for a 5 - 58 win.

The coaching team of Adam Watson, Jon Hetherington and Dan Newall were full of praise for their side’s performance when speaking to the clubs official YouTube chancel.

“I thought we looked from start to finish today, it was a bit of an arm wrestle for the first 30 minute but we just saw it out and the back line moved the ball really well and we scored some really good tries!

We were really pleased with the penalty count we talked about it before the game and it was only 8 which were much improved from last week. Milly was great, Will Patient has a good game at hooker and Chris Morgan made a real impact off the bench and his kicking was outstanding.

We have Altringham Kersal at home next week they are a good side, our attitude was spot on today more of the same next week should see us right. It should be a great day next Saturday with all 3 team playing at home!”
